Olympic Flame Origins

The Ancient Greeks started the idea of having an Olympic flame. In Olympia a sacred flame is lit by the sun's rays and stays alight until the games have ended. The flame symbolized a request for protection from Zeus and the athletes’ struggles for victory.

The modern flame symbolizes the light of the Spirit, knowledge and life. To this day, the torch is still lit in Olympia in Greece, then carried by a relay team, passing runner to runner, until it reaches the host-city of the games. There, the cauldron will be lit and stay alight until the closing ceremony.

the Olimypics

The Olympics began two and a half thousand years ago in ancient Greece. In those days Greece was made up by several different states including Athens Sparta and Corinth and they were often at war but when the games were on they held a truce. These great event was held at a place Olympia and these is why the games are called Olympics. They were held once every 4 years by the honour of Zeus Lord of all the Gods.  Eventually the games were abolished by the Roman Emperor Theodosius  the third who was a christian and didn't like the games because they were dedicated to a pagan God. But the Olympics will always remember the symbol of human achievement and peace.

A long time ago there lived a taniwha who ate anyone sailing past in their boat but when it was sunny the taniwha would go back down into the sea and when it was day time tamarereti would be hungry and his tummy would be rumbling. So tamarereti would go into his boat and get fish and he got 3 large ones. but then he got tired and went for a nap  but suddenly the wind was strong he went to a different island. So he was still hungry he got out one of the large fish out and ate it but some glistening pebbles where on his boat so he sailed home and he throw them into the sky. To keep him safe from the taniwha and he made it home safely and went straight to sleep and when he woke up he sore the  god of the sky he fotht he was going to be punished for throwing the glistening pebbles. Into the sky but the god of the sky said you made the sky more beautiful so i grant you to the heavens and tamarereti was happy.

The Blob

The blob.jpg

Nestled within the blue and yellow pillow eager children anticipate the ride the countdown was on. Three, two, one. Terror mixed with excitement was written all over their faces as they were catapulted towards the sky.
Spinning, twirling and tumbling the children twisted their way through the air .  As they plummeted towards the water their faces grinned  in delight. Splash. “Can I have another go please?’’.

The New Zealand Flag

New Zealanders have begun voting on whether to change their flag from a design which features the British Union Jack to one which features a silver fern. Many people are angry that the referendum to change our flag has cost our country 27 million dollars. Also, the new design is not considered to be a good design for a nation’s flag.

Roller Coaster

I’ve never been more terrified than when I stood looking up at that monstrosity. Rollercoaster are truly my worst nightmare, I couldn’t believe I was here. This was awful.

Roaring and soaring through the sky we tumbled and twisted. Closing my eyes, I wished over and over again that the ride would soon end. Whose dumb idea was this?

Woosh the cars sped past me, filled with screaming I felt as if I might faint from nervousness.  ”There are butterflys in my tummy” I said quietly.
